Tullamore Gospel Choir was launched on Easter Sunday, April 20th, 2003 under the direction of singer/songwriter Brendan Keeley. It has the distinction of being the biggest Gospel Choir in Ireland with over 50 members.
The Gospel Choir has been one of the most successful initiatives ever undertaken in the parish of Tullamore, and has gone from strength to strength since its foundation, regularly receiving requests to perform at various functions. We have appeared on TV numerous times and have also played for President Mary Mc Aleese.
Membership of Tullamore Gospel Choir is entirely voluntary, and the level of commitment and dedication of each and every member of the choir is truly staggering.
Over 95% of members attend weekly Choir rehearsals in the Day Chapel of the Church of the Assumption in Tullamore every Wednesday night.
Founded on the three principles of Faith, Friendship and Fun, Tullamore Gospel Choir has been performing at the 1pm mass in the Church of the Assumption, Tullamore on the second and fourth Sunday of every month since our launch. We have proved to be a very welcome addition to the liturgy and have attracted huge crowds to the church from near and far, both young and old alike.
As well as enhancing the liturgy in Tullamore parish with our own unique style of music and song, the Gospel Choir has another very important function – i.e. Outreach, which literally means “Reaching out to those in the community who are in need”. This outreach element of Tullamore Gospel Choir has taken us all over the country to perform at charity events for many deserving causes, and we have raised countless thousands of euro for charity since our launch.
